During the 45-minute initial breastfeeding strategy session with lactation consultant Natalie Diaz, here is what you can expect:
- Introduction and Discussion of Concerns: Natalie will start by introducing herself and creating a comfortable environment for open communication. You will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns, challenges, and goals regarding breastfeeding.
- Medical History and Personal Information: Natalie will ask you questions about your medical history, any previous breastfeeding experiences, and your baby's health. This information will help her better understand your unique situation.
- Observing a Breastfeeding Session: If you and your baby are comfortable, Natalie may ask you to breastfeed. She will observe the latch, positioning, and any other issues that may affect breastfeeding.
- Identifying and Addressing Challenges: Based on her observation and the information you provided, Natalie will help identify any challenges you are facing in breastfeeding. These challenges can include pain, low milk supply, latch difficulties, or other issues.
- Education and Practical Tips: Natalie will provide you with educational information about breastfeeding techniques, proper latch, positioning, and common issues faced by breastfeeding mothers. She will also give you practical tips and recommendations for overcoming challenges.
- Developing a Personalized Plan: Together, you and Natalie will develop a personalized breastfeeding plan that suits your needs, goals, and lifestyle. This plan may include strategies for increasing milk supply, improving latch, managing pain, or addressing other concerns.
- Follow-up and Support: To ensure your breastfeeding journey progresses smoothly, Natalie will schedule follow-up appointments as needed. She may also provide you with resources, such as educational materials, support groups, or contact information for further assistance.
